Ingredients

  • 1 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 cup Light Soy Sauce

Instructions

  • Using a small saucepan, mix the light soy sauce and brown sugar and simmer while stirring.
1 cup Brown sugar, 1 cup Light Soy Sauce
  • After 5-10 minutes on low heat, the mixture will turn into a thick syrup consistency.
  • Once cool, keep in the fridge for up to one month in an airtight container.

Notes

Try using palm sugar (jaggery) instead of brown sugar, which is more traditional. Alternatively, use coconut sugar.
Light soy sauce is best, but you could use dark soy sauce diluted with water if you're in a pinch.
For a gluten free option, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
