The best sweet chili sauce substitute is probably homemade sweet chili sauce! It's super easy to make and will last in the refrigerator for at least one month (if you don't eat it all at once!). This really is a super easy sweet chili sauce recipe, that has a perfect spicy taste mixed with a sweet flavor.
6red chili peppers- finely chopped or 4 tablespoon dried chili flakes
3clovesgarlic- minced
½cupwhite vinegar
½cupwater
½cupgranulated sugar
1tablespooncornstarch
1tablespooncold water
Instructions
In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped red chillies, minced garlic, white vinegar, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.

Add the granulated sugar to the saucepan and stir to dissolve. Let the mixture simmer for another 5 minutes.

In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water until smooth. Add the cornstarch mixture to the saucepan and stir well.

Increase the heat to medium-high and bring the sauce to a boil. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the sweet chilli sauce cool to room temperature.
Once cooled, transfer the sweet chilli sauce to a clean jar or bottle and store it in the fridge.
Notes
This amazing homemade chili sauce can be kept in the fridge in an airtight container for upto 1 month.
Add an extra tablespoon of red pepper flakes or red chili powder if you would like it to be spicier.
Rice wine vinegar or rice vinegar can be used instead of white vinegar.
